This guide is based on the ninth edition of the The CSE Manual: Scientific Style and Format for Authors, Editors, and Publishers (2024).
The Council of Science Editors (CSE) style is a set of guidelines for formatting and citing sources in academic writing. The CSE style has THREE style options: (1) Name-Year, (2) Citations-Sequence, and (3) Citation-Name. This guide cover the Name-Year style which is the preferred format for papers written in the sciences. For more information about CSE style, consult the manual available in the Medicine Hat College Library or visit the CSE Style website. CSE style is most commonly used to cite sources within the sciences.
