Game Collection

About the Game Collection

The Game Collection at the Vera Bracken Library features a variety of board games, card games, and tabletop role-playing games (TTRPGs). This collection is designed to encourage social gameplay, promote interactive learning experiences, and introduce the campus community to a wide range of game genres. It supports both recreational use and educational exploration. Students and faculty are invited to recommend new titles for the collection. You'll find the games in the regular collection under Call No. GV.

Finding Games in the Catalogue

You can browse the entire library and place holds on specific games in MHC's Search the Library by searching for specific game titles or browse just board and card games or role-playing games, which will show you all games we have available.

Want to check if we have a specific game in the collection? First, start by browsing either the board and card games or the role-playing games in the library database. Then type the name of the game you're looking for into the section of the search box labeled "enter a search term." Watch out for typos! If we don't have the game you're looking for, you can always submit a suggestion.

If you want to learn more about a game before you place a hold, visit Board Game Geek and RPGGeek. These hobbyist sites provide tons of information on games, including how many players a game works best with, how long games take to play, how complicated games are, and lots more.

Learn How to Play Games

Need to learn how to play a specific game? Rule books and manuals are included with the board games you check out from the library. You can often find online rule books on the game publisher's website. Discussion threads on Board Game Geek, Reddit, and other online discussion sites are another useful resource.

YouTube is a great resource for instructional board game videos. Try searching "How to play <Game Title>" for videos showing how to set up and play the game. YouTube is also a good source of game reviews and playthroughs. Seeing a game in action will give you a sense of whether it is a good choice for you!
