Multimedia Equipment

Audio Equipment

The following equipment is available for students, staff & faculty to borrow. All equipment has a 24 hour loan unless otherwise stated. 

campus ID card is required to borrow any equipment.

Redcat

The Redcat is a classroom audio system that's perfect for soft-spoken or voice-impaired instructors and speakers. It works best when the speaker is positioned at the opposite end of the room as the sound system. It has up to 200 feet of range. 3 Redcats are available for student and faculty use.

Redcats setups include:
  • a 16" x 9.5" flat panel speaker
  • a microphone charging port
  • a wireless handheld mic
  • a wireless lanyard mic

Mackie Sound System

For large or outdoor events, the Mackie Sound System is your best bet. Situated on a rolling cart, the Mackie includes a 6-channel mixer and up to 4 powerful speakers (2 attached to the cart, 2 with raisable stands). 

Mackie setups often include:
  • Dynamic mics with XLR cords
  • A handheld wireless mic kit
  • Mic stands
  • A 3.5mm-to-¼” auxilary cord for connecting devices

Alesis Portable Sound System

The Alesis is a complete, portable PA system with built-in bluetooth connectivity for playing music from other devices. It works well for events in small to medium-sized rooms and even comes equipped with a digital light display!

Alesis kits include:
  • one 1/4'' corded mic
  • a power cord
  • mic stands are also available

Dynamic Microphones

Dynamic microphones the standard for amplifying voices at events and musical performances. They usually connect to sound systems using XLR cables. The library has a number of dynamic mic options available to students and staff.

Dynamic mic options include:
  • Handheld, XLR-corded mics (the standard)
  • Wireless mic kits with handheld, lapel, and lavalier options
  • Handheld, 1/4" corded mics (for Alesis sound systems)

Mics for Streaming & Recording

The library has a number of microphone options for recording voice and producing content.

Mobility options:
  • The Yeti (left) is the best option for capturing sound from 1-2 stationary speakers.
  • Our Rode (top right) and Boya (bottom right) kits are better suited for recording or live-streaming larger or more mobile groups. For more detailed info, consult Multimedia staff at the front desk in the library.

Catchbox

The Catchbox is a cube shaped, foam-surrounded, wireless microphone designed to be "tossed" from person to person. Its unique fun-factor helps breaks down barriers and allow people to sharing ideas more confidently. Perfect for fostering lively, positive classroom discussion.

Catchbox setup includes:
  • Catchbox cube mic
  • Catchbox receiver
  • Small PA + necessary cables

Califone PA

Four Califone PA-300 speakers are available to borrow from the library. These simple, portable speakers can connect to any equipment with RCA or 3.5 mm ports and are perfect for playing media in classrooms and similar sized venues. Califone PA's are included on the CVP/laptop carts available through the library.

Bluetooth Speakers

The library has a variety of Bluetooth speakers available for connecting to devices like phones and tablets.

Small models:

  • Anker SoundCore (bottom left)
Larger PA-style systems:
  • Lyrik Frontrow (top left)
  • SoundStage Party Cube (bottom right)

Voice Recorders

Digital voice recorders are available to borrow from the library. These small devices can be used for conducting interviews and recording voice memos. Recordings can be transferred to your computer using USB connection.

Models include:
  • Sony ICD-AX412
  • Etekcity VR-BK8 (see above)

Soundboards & Mixers

The 6-channel SoundCraft EPM 6 soundboard available at the library is ideal for mixing multi-channel recordings and performances. 

For recording from a computer, the library has a 5-input Xenyx 302 USB mic preamp and audio interface. 

Record Player

The library has an Audiotronics vinyl record player available to borrow. The all-in-one, portable player only requires electricity (and a record, of course) to function.

Suggested uses include:
  • Media and format presentations
  • Background music for study sessions
  • Small parties and gatherings 

Portable Stereos

The library still has boomboxes and other portable stereos available for playing CDs, cassettes, mp3s, and other media. 

Types include:
  • Bose SoundDock (30-pin Apple & auxiliary connections)
  • CD & cassette players (Sony, Panasonic)
