Follow these examples of MLA style by number of authors:

One Author

Works cited page:

Thomas, Ronald R. Detective Fiction and the Rise of Forensic Science. Cambridge UP, 1999.

In-text:

Thomas’s findings indicate . . . (156).  OR    . . . (Thomas 156).

Two Authors

Works cited page:

  • Cite both authors and only reverse/invert the name of the first author.

Bloom, Jonathan, and Sheila Blair. Islam: A Thousand Years of Faith and Power. Knopf, 2000. 

In-text:

  • Use "and" between authors’ names.

Bloom and Blair compare . . . (14).  OR . . . (Bloom and Blair 14).

Three or more Authors

Works cited page:

Beebe, Steven A., et al. Communication: Principles for a Lifetime. Canadian ed. Pearson, 2005.

In-text:

 

Beebe et al. suggest that . . . (89).  OR    . . . (Beebe et al. 89).

Editor and NO Author

Works cited page:

In-text:

  • Since the information was edited, do not use the editor's name as if he or she wrote it.
