Core Elements - Works Cited

In the 8th edition of the MLA Handbook, the focus is on the core elements common to sources regardless of format. Consider your source and identify the information available in the following order. The elements available or applicable to each source will vary.

  1. Author.
  2. Title of Source. [article, book, chapter, web page, etc.]
  3. Title of Container,   [name of journal, anthology, whole book, website, etc.]
  4. Other contributors,  [editor, translator, etc.]
  5. Version,  [edition]
  6. Number,  [journal volume/issue number]
  7. Publisher,
  8. Publication date, 
  9. Location. [URL, database name, doi, etc. This is not the city of publication.]
