Use the following list of search term to help you find K-12 curriculum resources in the library catalogue or in Education themed databases. Try synonyms and consider narrowing your search by subject, grade level, theme, or activity, for more targeted results. Limit to book, video, game, visual, kit, or toy to find a specific type of resource. 

  • "activity programs" or "activity program"
  • "lesson plans" or "lesson planning" 
  • "instructional and educational works"
  • "juvenile fiction"
  • "juvenile literature"
  • juvenile and subject e.g. dogs
  • "picture books for children" and subject e.g. cats
  • "teaching- aids and devices" and subject e.g. math

How to Use the Library Catalogue

Boolean operators

- words that instruct your search tool to either combine different search terms in specific ways or eliminate particular concepts from your search

Operator Function Example Retrieves
AND Narrows a search technology​ AND literacy Only items pertaining to BOTH terms together
OR Broadens a search ecology OR pollution Items pertaining to EITHER term, separately or together
NOT Limits a search Mexico NOT city Items pertaining to 1st term, OMITS any that include 2nd term
For non-fiction books at a young person's reading level:

         add the term “juvenile” to your topic in a keyword search
         Sample catalogue searchevolution AND juvenile

For fiction books at a young person’s reading level:

         use the term “juvenile fiction”.
         Sample catalogue search: mystery AND juvenile fiction

To find books on teaching a certain topic:

       try adding “teaching” to your keyword search.
